In my late teens, a gross man showed me some of his hentai videos. I was shocked and outraged by the pornographic scenes of eroticised rape as so I began to make art that was critical, angry and judgemental about the proliferation of media that fetishised the violation of female bodies.  While I think those critiques were an important aspect of my development as a feminist artist, what they didn’t acknowledge was the deep guilt and confusion buried within my self-righteous indignation… because I was turned on by the porn. Very turned on.

Please note: This painting contains some florescent pigments. Though I use the highest quality florescent paints which are coated with a top of the range UV protective varnish, this artwork should not be exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time as there is a risk of colour fading. In fact, this rule should be applied to all paintings.
